How to Achieve Success with MLM Phone Leads
Every network marketing company I’ve been with in the last thirty years has told me to make a list of people I know and contact them. I did that, but within a month or so, I was out of people and for most people that means they are out of business. However, I discovered that there are companies out there who generate MLM phone leads and if you know how to work them, you can create a tremendous income. In thisarticle I will teach you the secret to achieving success with MLM phone leads.
1. Good Lead Source – talk with your upline leaders about any sources they are using. If none of them are using leads, then here are a couple of time proven sources: Cutting Edge Leads and MLM Leads. Both of these provide high quality MLM phone leads. They attract people through internet or print advertising and then depending upon what you want to pay for the leads, they can be as immediate, geographical, or qualified as you want.
2. Script – the next step to success with MLM phone leads is a powerful script. If you fumble around on the phone, you lose credibility and the prospect. However, if you control the call in a friendly way, they will respect, trust, and join you. Here are some tips on calling and a time proven script:
The best way to use a phone script it to memorize and internalize the script, so that it doesn’t sound like you’re working off of a script. This will also enable you to adlib as the opportunity arises. Also, feel free to tweak the script to fit your speech patterns, use of words, company situation, etc.
Before calling, make sure you know the outcome you want – inviting them to a local meeting, conference call, webinar, look at a web site, view a video presentation, or do a 3-way call with an upline leader. If you are going to a local meeting, make sure you have the day/time and address with directions. If you are directing them to a webinar or teleconference you’ll need the day/time and URL or phone number.
Also, prior to calling, you will need to have prepared something that you can use to keep track of the prospects. If you have contact management software (i.e. ACT) on your computer, you could use that. The contact manager in the full version of Outlook will also work. Perhaps you might use a PDA or your smartphone. As you are making your calls, enter the prospect information into the contact management system and add comments about the call(s).
Okay, here is the sample phone script:
If you are calling out of state, when a person answers the phone, say “Hi, this is (your name) calling from (city and state) for (prospect’s first name), is he/she available?”
If the person asks what it is in regard to, say “(prospect’s first name) requested some information from our company and I’m just checking to make sure he/she receives it. Is he/she available?” If the prospect is not available, ask for the best time to try again, but do not leave your phone number.
If you are calling local numbers, you use the script above and below, but leave out where you are calling from.
Once you have the prospect on the phone, continue.
“(Prospect’s first name), this is (your name) calling from (city and state). You requested information about a home based business and I’m calling to make sure that you receive the correct information. Is this a good time to talk?”
If not, schedule an appointment. If yes, continue.
First, I’d like to commend you for checking into home businesses. Given all that is going on in our economy, that’s a very smart move. Second, if you don’t mind, I’d like to ask you a few questions, just to get to know you a little better. What do you do for a living right now? How long have you been doing that? What do you like? Dislike? What’s the main reason you are looking at home businesses? Have you operated one before? What was it? How did that go? Specifically what are you looking for in a home business now? “
“Thanks for your answers. Now, let me share about what we are doing. I’m working with a team of experienced network marketers with a company called (name of your company) and a training and support team called (name of your team). We are marketing a very unique product that is in high demand and utilizing the most lucrative, yet fair compensation plan in the industry. This is very big – I’m talking right time and place big and those of us who position ourselves properly over the next couple of years stand to make a fortune. Sound interesting?”
The prospect will say yes or start to ask questions. In either case, continue.
“I know that you probably have a lot of questions and I want to make sure that we answer every one of them, so on (day at time) there is going to be (a live meeting, webinar, or teleconference during which we should answer all of your questions. However, if we don’t I will be happy to talk with you afterwards to answer any additional questions. Can you make that time?
If no and you have alternate days/times, try one of those. If none of them work, have an alternate – web site, video presentation, 3-way call with upline, etc.
If yes, continue.
“That’s great. Now, keep in mind that we are looking for the right person and one of the qualities is that they are a man/woman of their word. So, I’m going to ask you a big favor. If something comes up and you aren’t going to be able to make it, please give me at least 4 hours advanced notice so that I can fill your spot with someone else. Here is my phone number/e-mail address. Will you do that for me?”
“Thanks! Okay, so I’ll plan on you being there (day at time). Do you have that written on your calendar or in your PDA? Here is the information you’ll need (for the live meeting, webinar, or teleconference). Do you have all that down? Great. We should also schedule a time right after to answer any additional questions.”(schedule that for directly after the event)
“Alright we’re set. Again, if something comes up you’re going to give me at least 4 hours notice; otherwise I will look forward to talking with you after the (meeting, webinar, teleconference) on (day at time). Thanks for the time today/tonight, have a great day/evening.”
3. Action – it’s great to have leads and a script, but if you don’t pick up the phone and make the calls it’s all for naught. A fun way to do this is to find a phone partner. Set up a competition where you will each make so many calls each week and the one with the best results wins lunch from the other person. You can also set up MLM phone lead parties where you and some of your downline get together and call leads. You have a whiteboard to show the results and maybe everyone chips in $5 and the top person wins all the money. The key is to make it fun, so that you will move into and stay in action.

You are so close to the success you have dreamed about. The difference between those who earn the “Big Bucks” and those who can’t seem to make it work is incredibly slim. The majority of those who sign up in an MLM business are hoping to get lucky. It is not enough to believe that you will get lucky and hit it big in network marketing. While it is true that all you need in most organizations is a few “On Fire” distributors to build a big business, it is also true that very rarely does the “On Fire” distributor just fall into your lap. Those who make it big do so because they are deliberate in their pursuit and they have the mindset that failure is not an option. You must be willing to make a genuine commitment with the resolve that you will not fail.
Okay, you’ve made the commitment, you have gone to the meetings, hosted the in home tastings, listened in on the conference calls, and attended the recommended conventions. Why are you still spending more than you make? The truth is that the excitement you are experiencing will only take you so far. You have been unintentionally miss lead. In all fairness your upline wants you to succeed and will not intentionally lead you astray. Your upline is using the same approach for everyone with the understanding that some people will come on board and some won’t. Some will try and fail because the marketing methods are not a good fit. What you need starts with how you see yourself.
When most people sign up in a network marketing business they are sitting someplace between being excited about the possibilities of positive change and the underlying fear that it might fail. I have personally tried the one on one family and friends approach. This method has worked up to a point. Once I come to the end of that list (the warm market) I get stuck. I don’t want to cold call a bunch of strangers and face the rejection. I went against the advice of the traditional thinkers and turned to the internet. Online marketing has opened doors that I didn’t know existed.
The positive mindset you need for success is found in matching your business opportunity choice with the marketing method that works best for you. I personally enjoy writing articles and providing training. Some people are comfortable with using the online classified ads to market their business. There are those who will use affiliate marketing as their primary tool. The trick is to pick one proven method and become an expert in your specialty.
